If the pain can be temporarily eliminated by facet infiltration ( vertebral joint infiltration ) under fluoroscopy but no sufficiently long-lasting therapeutic success can be achieved, facet denervation under fluoroscopy can be considered.
In cases of chronic back pain, such as wear-related facet joint arthrosis, the sensitive innervation of the vertebral joints (pain fibers) can be switched off for up to 18 months through targeted heat treatment with a special probe without any loss of function of the other nerves. In many cases, facet denervation can avoid the need for surgery.
