Indications for facet infiltration are wear-related facet joint arthroses in the cervical and lumbar spine, less frequently also in the thoracic spine.
Thanks to fluoroscopy (image intensifier), a local anesthetic, usually in combination with a steroid, can be injected precisely into one or more affected vertebral joints. The advantage of this is, on the one hand, the very low dosage of medication due to precise application and, on the other hand, the possibility of testing the respective facet joints in order to narrow down the cause of the pain as precisely as possible.
