Kneecap surgery for dislocation of the kneecap (patellar luxation)

Lateral release: This involves arthroscopically notching the joint capsule to the side of the kneecap using a special electric knife in order to achieve better centering of the kneecap.

Medial ligament tightening: the guiding ligaments of the kneecap are doubled and reinforced via a small skin incision on the inside next to the kneecap to prevent kneecap dislocation.

MPFL plastic surgery (medial patellofemoral ligament): if these medial ligaments that guide the kneecap are severely overstretched, they are replaced by a tendon from the back of the thigh (gracilis tendon). This restores the central movement of the kneecap.
