Shoulder prosthesis

Smaller and medium-sized cartilage defects can be treated with a bioprosthesis in the same way as cartilage treatment in the knee joint. In the case of very advanced osteoarthritis of the shoulder joint, different types of prostheses are implanted if there is a corresponding loss of function and the patient is suffering.

It is often necessary to replace the humeral head and the glenoid (the joint socket).

For osteoarthritis only in the area of the humeral head, we use so-called cap prostheses, which are inserted without cement using a minimally invasive technique. Only the joint surface of the humeral head is replaced.

If the osteoarthritis in older people is combined with non-reconstructable wear of the tendon plate (rotator cuff), an inverse shoulder prosthesis is also implanted using a minimally invasive technique.

Postoperative 4 weeks wearing a shoulder orthosis and passive exercise, followed by active exercise.
