Load-dependent pain in the palm of the hand, extending into individual fingers. In advanced cases, snapping of the finger or even complete locking in the flexed position.
If the flexor tendons are inflamed, they can only glide poorly or not at all through their guide ligaments (annular ligaments). The cause of snapping fingers (tendovaginitis stenosans) is often unknown and can be genetic or due to overuse. It can affect one or more fingers.
Infiltration with low-dose cortisone around the flexor tendon can lead to swelling reduction and thus renewed gliding of the tendon through the annular ligament. If the infiltration therapy fails or the findings are pronounced, the annular ligament is split through an incision of around 1 cm.
