Traumatic vertebral body fracture

Severe pain in the spine. Paralysis if the spinal cord is damaged.

In a vertebral body fracture, a vertebra gives way under the force acting on it. A vertebral body fracture is often caused by traffic accidents or falls from a great height.

Unstable traumatic fractures are surgically stabilized, stable fractures with secure support of the posterior edge of the vertebra, which supports the spinal cord, are usually treated conservatively.
